Selecting a Quality Training Provider

Selecting a training provider may seem like a straightforward process for any manager or company owner to undertake. Ring 3 companies , get 3 prices , job done. Cheapest quote gets the gig. But are you really getting value for your money? As we all know cheapest price doesn’t usually equal greatest quality. Quality in training goes a lot deeper than the price especially in the area of conflict management. Selecting a quality training provider can end up saving you a lot more than the next cheapest  guys quote.
So what should you be looking for in a quality training provider? We have listed a few key quaestions that managers and company owner should ask themsleves when looking for a quality training provider.

Who are their previous clients?
Have they trained with organisations in the same sector or offering similar types of service as you. Sector based experience is a huge plus in conflict management as it shows that the trainers understand the type of issues your employees face. A client based across a range of sectors is also a good starting place to look. This shows a training providers adaptability to new sectors and brings a broad base of knowledge that may benefit your employees.
Client testimonials
Just as important as who their previous clients are is what did they say about the training. Good quality training providers will not only publicise their clients but will often have client testimonials freely available on their website. Happy previous clients are a sign of a quality provider. Check out what previous clients have said about their training and the impact it had on their employees.
Accreditation
Who accredites the training? Quality training providers will often have accreditation from easily recognisable awarding bodies such as QQI. Being accredited by national and international awarding bodies requires a huge amount of quality assurance in  the training products, trainers and support areas and shows a real professional approach to training. Look for awarding body logos or memberships on their website that show commitment to quality.
Customer Service
The training industry is a service industry at the end of the day and the aim of a quality training provider will always be to provide you with the best service. How does the company make you feel as customer? Right from the first call or e-mail how did you feel? Was your call answered? Did they call our e-mail you back. The most important question of all to ask yourself is; “Do these guys understand my problem? “. Quality training providers are all about the customer and not the product. This flows through every conversation and email that is exchanged between provider and customer and builds trust in the partnership.
The trainers
Who are their trainers? Often your first contact is with the sales team or the accounts team. They will promise you the world and listen to all of your problems. But they wont be delivering the training to your staff. In all likelihood they will never meet your staff. A quality training provider will ensure that you meet the trainers prior to any training taking place. The trainer who will be on the ground will listen to your issues and advise on how they will deal with these issues on the day of training. Another question to ask is “how well trained are the trainers”. What is their experience? What are there qualifications. All of this will form part of the audit trail after the training.
The value added service
The last and most important aspect of a quality training provider is what added value do they provide. Can they also support you in designing policies or procedures, assist with risk assessments or reporting processes? What is there follow up support after the training has taken place? These are all things a quality training provider will have in place and will offer as part of the training package. It is these additional value added supports that lead to a working partnership between client and training provider.
